The written claim on a transporter, shipping line or airline for goods damaged, short or lost in transit.
When: Within the time your policy and the contract of carriage require
Reply to a repudiation
A reasoned answer to a refusal, dealing with the ground the insurer actually relied on.
When: As soon as possible, and inside the time limit for challenging

When: Before you sign any discharge voucher
Asking for the survey report
You are entitled to know what the assessment says. Ask for it in writing, early.
When: After the survey, and again before you accept any offer
Escalating to the grievance cell
When the claim has stopped moving and the correspondence has stopped being answered.
When: After the insurer's published response time has passed
What every claim file needs
whatever the loss was- The policy schedule and the full wording, not just the certificate.
- The intimation you sent, with its date and the address it went to.
- Photographs and video of the loss, taken before anything was moved.
- The surveyor's appointment letter and every document they asked for.
- Invoices, stock statements and the asset register proving the value at risk.
- The complete email trail with the insurer, in date order.
- A one-page timeline: loss, intimation, survey, documents sent, offer.
